any ideas?

I'm looking for a great crock pot or soup recipe, and I'm dreading resorting to the old google recipe search (always a little risky I think). So, I thought I would come here and ask if any of you have something tried and true that you could share with me.

Here's my dilemma. I am hosting play group tomorrow, but I'm going to be out all evening, so I won't have time to do any prep work before the morning, and unfortunately, all my recipes call for a little more time than I have. That means that I'm ideally looking for something I can wake up and throw in the crock pot early, or have simmering on the stove by the time everyone gets here. So, any ideas? Something that's a favorite around your house?

And beyond my immediate situation, I am less than creative in the kitchen department, so any new recipes I can add to the mix would be appreciated!

I don't know how this would work for a play group but I like to throw potatos, carrots, onions, celery and stew meat into the crock pot with just a beef stew seasoning packet. It's quick and easy and tastes great!

I put chicken breast (boneless, skinless), salsa, black beans, and shredded cheese in the crock pot, then server on top of tortilla chips and with sour cream and additional shredded cheese on the side....Yummm!

My sister shared this Beef Stew on my food blog. I made it last week and it's easy and delicious! My husband typically isn't a fan of beef stew but he liked it. http://everydaymealstoshare.blogspot.com/2008/12/beef-stew.html

This Roast chicken is amazing and pretty healthy too. It makes it's own gravy while it's cooking and is very easy. A friend made it for me after I had my baby and I fell in love with the flavors. I don't usually care for green peppers but I loved this. http://everydaymealstoshare.blogspot.com/2008/04/sunday-roast-chicken.html

Not sure if this would work for a play group (I haven't tested it on "kids", but grown-ups seem to like it!) I am leaving for a meeting, but my cousin is going to email me her Chicken Tortilla Soup Recipe that is really :o) Good luck!

Crockpot Buffalo Chicken Wing Soup

6 cups milk (skim works)
3 cans condensed cream of chicken soup (10.75 oz, undiluted)
3 cups shredded cooked chicken (about 1 lb; can double this item)
1 cup sour cream (8 oz)
1/4 cup hot pepper sauce (1/4 to 1/2) (e.g. "Cookies: Wings-n-Things Hot Sauce")

Cook (don't fry) chicken, cool, then chop. Combine all ingredients in a crockpot. Cover and cook on LOW for 4-5 hours. Yields: 2 quarts; 8 servings (more if a side dish)

Garnish: Blue cheese crumbles

I have thought of your family lately as the flowerbeds at our church have poppys in such beautiful colors right now!!

I put cut up steak meat in the crock pot along with 2 cans of cream of chicken and 2 cans of chicken a la king. I leave it on high for a few hours and then by the early evening it is tender and wonderful! We serve it with/over white rice and it is a favorite of everyone. My 4y and 18mth old love it! :)

I'm so glad you posted this: I'm stealing some recipes:) Hope tomorrow goes well and it all comes together. (if you have chicken breasts, an easy one is to drop them into the crock pot and add a jar/bottle of barbecue sauce. I let it sit for about 8 hrs. on low. So that could work for an "over-nighter". It's super tender, pulls apart easily if you want to mount it on a bun.)

PS- another one I just thought of is a taco soup- but you have to brown the meat and chop an onion. That might not fit into the no-prep category. Otherwise the following recipe feeds about 10 people:
2 lb ground beef
1-2 onions
2 pkg taco seasoning
2 pkg powdered ranch dressing mix
2 cans Rotel
2 cans corn
2 cans black beans
(do not drain any cans)

Saute onion and ground beef together. Combine all ingredients into large pot. Add enough water to make as soupy as you desire- and heat until desired temp. Garnish with fritos, cheese and sour cream.

hi Angie -
this is seriously the best soup EVER:
http://www.new.facebook.com/ext/share.php?sid=32001884158&h=p45Bi&u=yvV-0
and here's my Facebook pics and musings about the soup (can you tell i don't cook much??)
if you make it, use 1/2 the amount of cream cheese called for or else it will be super-thick like cheese dip. it actually cooks up really quickly, and it is soooo delicious.
good luck!

Baked Rigatoni! This is a big hit in my family and super easy.

Ingrediants:
1 box Rigatoni noodles
1 large jar Ragu or Prego
1 package pepperoni
1 bag of shredded mozerella cheese
1 bag of shredded parm cheese

-Simply boil one box of Rigatoni (do not over cook, actually under cook by about 3-4 minutes, as they will continue to cook in the crock pot)
-Then layer in crock pot
Noodles (1/2 box)
Sauce (1/2 jar)
pepperoni (1/2 pack- only @ 10)
cheese (1/2 of each bag)
REPEAT!

Cook on low for 6 hours

That's it! It is a crowd pleaser everytime and the best part is there is no way to mess it up! It's always perfect and even tastier the next day.

Enjoy!

My 3yo daughter likes my crockpot recipe I call easy cheesy chicken. Throw as many chicken breasts as you want in the crock (we usually cook about 4 or 5 halves, but you could easily add more w/o increasing other ingredients) and add a packet of taco seasoning. Then add 2 cans cheddar cheese soup and 1 can cream of chicken soup. Cook on high for 4 hours or low for 8. Shred chicken with a coupld of forks and stir in an 8 oz. container of sour cream. You can either be done and serve it over fritos, or put the chicken and sauce in tortillas, sprinkle on some shredded cheddar, add enchilada sauce, and bake in the oven until heated through. (We really like it on fritos, though.)
I know you're already past needing this for your playdate, but it's yummy and easy and our family really likes it!

4 chicken breast
2 cans corn
2 cans black beans
2 cans pinto beans
1 can diced tomatos
1 can rotel
1 cup chicken broth
1 ranch packet
1 taco packet
You can even put frozen chicken breasts in and it really works.
Do not drain any cans.
Serve with cheese and your favorite corn chip

Not a "crock pot recipe", but my cousin made this for a family gathering while the rest of us were "visiting", so it seemed pretty easy and quick :)

Cream Cheese, potato & ham soup
1 package of cubed hash browns (Ore Ida- the plain label tend to fall apart)
1 package of cubed ham (2 cups)
1 8 oz. package of cream cheese
6 cups of water
7 chicken boullion cubes
1 tsp. garlic salt
1 tsp. dill
pepper to taste

Heat water and bouillon cubes in a large saucepan until bouillon is dissolved. Cut cream cheese into cubes and add to saucepan...stir until cream cheese is melted. Add in remaining ingredients and simmer on the stove for about 30 minutes.
