Moon Sand Mania...

quickly devolves into "Houston, we have a problem!"

Marianna has been intrigued with the idea of Moon Sand since seeing the glitzy mini-informercial on TV, so she was allowed to earn it by sleeping in her bed all night (as opposed to sneaking down to the floor of ours between the hours of 3-5 as she's been in the habit of doing as of late). Today was the big day she got to bring it out for the first time, but I've got to admit, the contents were more than a little disappointing to us both. The pristine castles and amazing solar systems advertised on the commercial were a far cry from the pile of colored sand we found in front of us.

"Easy clean up" is printed in bold on the packaging.

I guess "easy clean up" is a very subjective idea.

It's my hope that some of you who have only toyed with the thought of bringing some moon sand into your home might read this and reconsider. Buy some playdough instead...same idea with much more productive results!

i'm a regular lurker, angie, (my in-laws are bellevue members and loved your Papa dearly) we relocated to TX soon after we were married... however- wanted to let you know, i am so glad that another mama hates/extremely dislikes moon sand. i also was disappointed. last year. it even made my hands burn when i played with it. i agree- don't buy this stuff!! it's disappointing. play doh is better. my girls love love loved silly putty this year- while it can get really stuck in carpet, it's not even a bit crumbly- but it does resemble gum- so it's best used with lots of supervision!. i couldn't believe it brought so much joy. love your blog, girl. it's a blessing

Well, we gave it a shot for Christmas. We found small containers of red & green moon sand & my thoughts were exactly the same as yours!! It's impossible to keep seperated & wow it sure does make an ugly mess! Happily we didn't invest a whole lot in our little experience! playdough is much better!!

Thanks for the "heads-up" Angie. I am definitely checking this one off my list of fun things to do indoors. What a mess!! Playdough is still king around here. Whatever doesn't get picked up out of the carpet, the dog eats. Gross, I know, but it isn't toxic and this dog eats everything!!! Marianna looks so cute and her socks are funny. I love you girl and pray 2009 blesses your socks off.

Love and Hugs, Laurie

I am SOOOOO with you on this one! We got MoonSand last year for Luke's birthday. He too was so excited about it after seeing that infomercial.

As he was making a horrible mess with it I read the cautions...it expands when it gets wet, so you can't even rinse things off in the sink after using it because it may clog the drain as it expands...I don't even want to think about what would happen if it were ingested, but since I have a little lightbulb eater in our home...we threw ours out!

Just checking in to see your precious family and how they are growing. I continue to see pictures, books, clothes etc. with poppies on them and think of Poppy so often.
I am praying that you have a wonderful beginning to this new year.

Yes, we do not like moon sand in our house! I much prefer making my own play dough!! It stays fresher longer than the store bought and it is SO easy to make!!

My kids all love moon sand. I, however, do not... It never dries, so when it sticks on clothing or furniture, it is almost impossible to remove. Now we ONLY play with it outside. I just spread a plastic table cloth on the driveway, let them play away, and then throw the mess away afterwards - and we're all happy! :)

Don't try the Floam or Glitter Lava very disappointing. My kids have had a fit for Moon Sand, but now I will explain how its like the others, a big let down. I have yet to figure out who can build the things on the commercials, probably trained engineers!

too funny. . .your blog just happened to come up on my google reader as something I might enjoy. So I took a peak.

I too hate moon sand. I also don't like play-doo for the carpet reason BUT would rather have play-doo than moon sand anyday.

Wait till you try to wash those clothes. It's easy clean up because you get frustrated and just throw everything away.
